Most people think the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Magdeburg is just a festival or a demonstration, but it is much more!Head of planning is the CSD Magdeburg e.V. with its members and hard-working helpers, organizing the yearly parade and many smaller events throughout the year.

In 1996, the first CSD in Saxony-Anhalt took place. At that time, it was called “CSD Saxony-Anhalt” and the location alternated between three hosting cities: Halle, Dessau and Magdeburg, although since 2000 it was only held in Halle or Magdeburg. Here, the event as well as its supporting association has grown steadily in recent years.

The first Liebig Street Festival, which was soon dubbed the „CSD in Magdeburg“, was a mix of cultural and political events as well as a festival. Traditionally, it has been preceded by two weeks of theme, party and action days corresponding to the CSD event and general queer topics.

Since then, the CSD has taken place every year except for 2008. Initially, the „Gay Men’s Club e.V.“ supported the event, joined by the LSVD Sachsen-Anhalt e.V. in 2009 until the CSD Magdeburg e.V. was founded in 2011. The CSD Madeburg has organized many other events throughout the year in addition to the CSD demonstration, the festival and the corresponding action weeks.
